A healthy, sustainable lifestyle is the best way to get the results you want. You always hear about the newest fad diet. It may be a from a celebrity in a magazine or it may be from your friend. You will try it for a few months, you may see some results, but then the diet will be too difficult and you stop doing it and lose any gains you may have made. To help you all from wasting your time on these diets I have 4 ways to spot a fad diet.
They tell you the same diet will work for everyone
Everyone is different and everyone has different needs from their food. Any diet that has a specific plan that says it works for every single person is wrong. There are simple healthy eating rules that everyone can follow but the amount of calories, protein, fat and carbohydrate that everyone needs will be different.
They promise quick results
Does the diet promise you that you will get the results you want in a week? Do the results sound too good to be true? Then it is a fad diet. While many of these diets will give you quick, initial results, these will not be sustainable and you may actually end up harming your health. A healthy rate of weight loss should be no more than 500g to 1kg a week.
No exercise is required
If a diet promises you results with no need to exercise then you should avoid it at all costs. The only way it would help you lose weight is by drastically cutting the amount of calories you eat. This will only harm your health and isn't sustainable. A healthy diet is an important part of a healthy lifestyle but you should always combine it with regular exercise
It cuts out entire food groups
Carbohydrates, protein and fat are the major food groups. You need all of these in your diet to stay fit and healthy. However some diets will tell you to avoid all carbs or totally cut fat from your diet. You may lose some weight in the beginning but by cutting out a whole food group you will be cutting vital nutrients that your body requires
The best diets and exercise plans are ones that are sustainable. There are no shortcuts or easy way to success and if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
