Easter is upon us so I thought I would share with you the benefits of eggs (sorry not chocolate ones ). Eggs are a fantastic food taste great and can be used in loads of different recipes. So here are some reasons why you should be eating eggs.
Eggs are a good source of protein!
A large egg contains about 6g of protein. However the best bit is that the quality of protein in eggs is the best you can get from food. Even better it contains all 9 essential amino acids (these make up protein) that we have to get from our food and can not make in our body.
They contain lots of other nutrients!
Eggs are one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. They contain Vitamin A, B2, B5, B12, selenium, calcium, iron, potassium, zinc and many more. The important thing to remember is that most of the nutrients are in the yolk (this is why I will never waste the yolk in any of my recipes!)
Eggs can improve your cholesterol!
People used to think that eggs are bad because they are high in cholesterol. This is true, but there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol ( I will do a post on cholesterol at some point as it can be a complex subject), and eggs are high in GOOD cholesterol. Studies have shown that eggs increase your good cholesterol levels and lower the risk from bad cholesterol. This can lower your risk of heart disease.
It contains Choline!
What is Choline? It is a nutrient that is vital for brain function and reduces the risk of liver and heart disease. A survey showed that 90% of people had too little choline in their diets. What is the best source of choline? Egg yolks (each yolk contains about 25% of your daily needs)!
They are good for your eyes!
Eggs also contain antioxidants which reduce the risk of decreased vision and blindness in the elderly. A study showed that eating 1 egg yolk a day was enough to increase levels of these antioxidants.
Eggs can help with weight loss!
Food is ranked on how full you feel after eating it. Eggs score very high on this scale and studies have shown that people who eat eggs for breakfast eat less calories throughout the rest of the day.
There are 6 reasons why eggs are so fantastic. However there are 2 points I want you to remember. First most of these benefits are in the yolk! Secondly the QUALITY of the eggs matter!! The better the food the chicken eat the better the egg. So free range eggs will usually be a better quality.
Anyway if you eat eggs regularly like or share this post to let everyone know how amazing eggs are or if you have any comments or questions share them here
