I love all types of berries, but blueberries are my favourite. I have them with my morning porridge, make smoothies with them or I mix them with some greek yoghurt and have it as a snack. They are also one of the healthiest foods on the planet. So here is why you should be eating blueberries (the second reason is my favourite!).
I am always talking about antioxidants and how important they are (check here for more details). Blueberries are shown to have the highest amount of antioxidants of all fruit and vegetables! That should be the only reason you need to start eating them.
If you have a particularly hard workout, or are trying out a new exercise you may have delayed onset muscle soreness afterwards (DOMS). Blueberries have been shown to help the recovery process. This means that you recover quicker and not have future workouts affected.
Blueberries are low in calories (Blueberries are made up of 80% water) but high in nutrients. They are extremely high Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Manganese and Fibre. This means you get a great source of nutrients without eating lots of extra calories.
One of the benefits of the antioxidants in blueberries is that they help reduce ageing. This is because they help prevent damage caused by toxins and free radicals within your body.
Blueberries also contain Gallic acid. This is a substance that has been shown to protect our brains from degeneration and damage. A study has shown that it may even improve our memory.
If you haven't been eating blueberries you should definitely start. Try making blueberry smoothies, blueberry pancakes or just having a handful on their own. They taste great and are fantastic for you health! If you have any great blueberry recipes share them here
