I have been talking about the benefits of all the fruits that are in season recently. However I realised there is a food that is in season now that I haven't talked about. It is something that I eat every day and I love. It is cucumbers! So todays article is looking at all the benefits of cucumbers
Cucumbers are a great source of vitamins and minerals. They are a good source of Vitamin K (needed for strong bones) and potassium (helps reduce and blood pressure). They also contain Vitamin A, B, C, copper and magnesium!
Cucumbers contain 95% water! This means they are very low in calories (100g contains only 16 Kcal). This makes them a great food for people who are watching their weight as it will fill you up quicker and keep you full without having lots of calories.
Cucumbers contain a number of substances (called lignans) that have been linked with reducing your risk of cancer and heart disease. Cucumbers also contain antioxidants that help reduce inflammation and protect your body from ageing.
I said earlier that cucumbers are 95% water. This means they help keep you hydrated and are a great way to make sure you get enough water! Staying hydrated is one of the most important things for your health and for looking and feeling your best.
Cucumbers are great in a salad or sandwich but there are lots of other ways to use them as well. For example I slice up half a cucumber and add it to a jug of water to add a delicious flavour (and you get all the cucumber benefits in the water!). Cucumbers are also great for home made face masks as they help hydrate dry skin and contain Vitamin C!
