Summer is coming which means it is radish season! I love picking fresh radish from my grandmother's garden and just eating them raw or chopping them up into salad. So that is why I am going to tell you why radish is such a great food. Here are 5 benefits of radishes.
Radish contains lots of phytochemical and antioxidants (like Vitamin C) that prevent free radicals from damaging your cells and DNA. This helps protect you from cancer.
Radish has been shown to help clear blocked noses and sore throats. Because it is high in Vitamin C it also gives your immune system a boost which should stop you getting ill in the first place.
Radish is low in calories and high in fibre. This means that it will fill you up without you eating many calories (100g has 16 calories!). So you won't end up snacking on junk food and you also get a boost from all the healthy nutrients in radish!
Fibre is a nutrient that many people do not get enough of in their diet. Luckily radish is a great source of fibre. This has many health benefits as it helps your digestion and is also great for diabetics (because it is high in fibre radish is a low glycemic index food).
The antioxidants in radish help protect you from cancer and give your immune system a boost. But that isn't all! The antioxidants and nutrients (like B vitamins, Vitamin C, zinc and phosphorus) also help to keep your skin looking great and protect it from damage. Some people even crush raw radish and use it as a face pack and skin cleanser!
So there are 5 reasons to have radish in your diet and because they are in season you know they will be fresh! If you have any great tips on how to eat or cook radish why not share them here?
