Fat Loss Mistakes You Don't Know You Are Making

Fat loss can be difficult and many people get into a cycle of dieting, losing some weight, giving up, putting the weight back on and starting the process all over again. However this is because many people treat fat loss the wrong way and are making mistakes without even realising it. That is why I have written about 5 mistakes I come across that people do not even realise they are making and how to deal with them.

You Are Waiting for the Perfect Time

You want to start a new diet but you keep on putting it off because you want to wait for the perfect time. Unfortunately we all have busy lives and it is unlikely that there will ever be a time where we aren't busy with work or children or studying. If you want to make a change then start today. You don't have to do everything at once, but try making one or two small changes week by week; go for a walk during your lunch break, drink more water, eat more fresh fruit and vegetables. Start by making one small change today and see the amazing things you can achieve!

You Expect to Be Perfect

Many people think that if they start a new exercise and diet plan then they have to do everything perfectly. They have to eat healthily at every meal, every day, they have to do all their scheduled workouts each week. The problem is that when something goes wrong; they miss a workout, they have to work overtime, they get ill, or they accidentally end up eating 3 slices of their favourite cake that their grandmother makes (yes, that was me!), then they have failed and they might as well quit. It is unrealistic to expect everything to be perfect all the time, I can guarantee that you will slip up. So when you do slip up, don't worry about it, learn what you can from the slip up and get back on track.

You Change Too Much Too Quickly

This is one of the biggest mistakes I see people making and is the reason for yo-yo dieting. People try and do too much, too quickly and very soon it will get too much for them and they will give up and go back to their old habits. Like I said earlier, the key is to make one or two changes at a time, not change everything all at once. These changes won't take much effort but will soon become habits and then you won't even know you are doing it!

You Don't Find Food that you Enjoy

This is another reason that many diets are unsustainable. You can handle 3 or 4 weeks of boring, bland food you don't like but eventually you will get sick of it and give up (how many times can you eat chicken breast, brown rice and spinach?). You have to try and find a healthy diet that is sustainable and that you enjoy. Healthy food doesn't have to be boring and can taste amazing. Experiment with herbs and spices, try different vegetables and dishes until you find ones like. If you want some suggestions of great tasting, healthy meals then have a look at my blog.

You Don't Master the Basics First

Everyone loves to know the secret tricks or the short cuts that will allow them to lose weight faster. Unfortunately this causes people to ignore the basics, when these simple changes will actually be responsible for the biggest improvements. Here are 5 examples of simple basic things you can do today:

  • Drink More Water
  • Get 7-9 hours sleep a night
  • Eat mostly whole foods
  • Eat more fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Do some sort of activity for at least 20 minutes each day
