Whenever I am sick my grandmother always tells me to have herbal tea. The thing is she is usually right because herbal teas have lots of great benefits and also taste great and are a great alternative if I want a hot drink that isn't coffee. Here are some of my favourite herbal teas and their benefits....
Fresh ginger is a fantastic ingredient that I love to use in lots of different ways. It can help if you are suffering from nausea (for example when you get motion sickness) and is can also reduce inflammation. This means it can help people with joint pain. To make ginger tea I just grate a small piece, add it to my mug and add boiling water. Sometimes I will squeeze in fresh lemon as well!
Peppermint tea is the one I always have after a big meal or when I am having digestive problems. It is great to have after dinner, in the evening, before I go to bed. You can buy peppermint teabags or you could always have a fresh mint plant in your home. To make the tea just pick some leaves, add hot water, leave for a few minutes and you are done.
If I have had a really stressful day I will have a cup of chamomile tea to help me calm down and relax. I also find that if I have it a few hours before I go to bed then I usually have a great night's sleep.
Rose hips are one of the best natural sources of Vitamin C! This means that rose hip tea can help strengthen your immune system and help your body prevent lots of age related diseases like cancer or heart disease. You can either use fresh rose hips or dry them out first so you can store them all year round.
Green tea is full of lots of benefits as it contains lots of antioxidants. It may help prevent diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, some cancers and Alzheimer's. However don't drink it too late in the day as it also contains caffeine.
